Huskies Compete at Florida State Relays

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.  --  Senior Hattie Landry (Acton, Maine/Wells) set a school record in the 100-meter hurdles to highlight a solid performance by the University of Southern Maine Huskies women's outdoor track and field team at the Florida State University Relays at Mike Long Track in Tallahassee, Florida.

The Huskies had several competitors participate in the three-day, non-team scoring event that hosts athletes from NCAA Division I, II and III schools.

Landry crossed the finish line in a record-setting 15.60 seconds to place 30th among the 38 finishers.  Her time bested the previous mark of 15.77 set by former USM standout Kim Brewer in May 2005.  Landry's time fell just six-tenths of a second shy of an NCAA provisional qualifying mark, but was good enough to qualify her for the NCAA Division III New England Championship, the Open New England Championship and the ECAC Championship.  Landry also competed in the long jump, placing 18th out of 30 with a leap of 5.04 meters (16-6 1/2).

Sophomore Emily Artesani (Orono, Maine) and freshman Christina Connolly (Boise, Idaho) also turned in championship qualifying performances.  Competing in the 400-meter dash, Artesani shaved nearly a second off of her time of a year ago to cross the finish line in 1:01.41 and qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships.  Connolly cleared 10-2 in the pole vault to tie for 14th place in the event and qualifying for both the New England Division III and ECAC Championships in May.

Junior Anna Biasin (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) finished two events for the Huskies, placing 12th in the triple jump and 28th in the 400-meter hurdles.  Biasin had a leap of 9.58 meters (31-5 1/4) in the triple jump and turned in a time of 1:11.26 in the hurdles.

Senior Gabby Cyr (Fort Kent, Maine) completed the 5000 meters in 19:34.22 to place 10th among 18 finishers, while senior Sarah Cannon (Sanford, Maine) raced in the 1500 meters crossing the finish line in 5:10.95.

Southern Maine returns to the Northeast and will compete at the Mt. Holyoke Invitational on April 5 (11:30 a.m.).
