Nygaard named 2nd team ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District

DELAWARE, Ohio-Junior Leanne Nygaard (Medway, Mass./Medway) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's track and field team has been named to the second team ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.

Nygaard was chosen in a vote of sports information directors in District One who are members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Nygaard earned Little East All-Conference honors in three events outdoors this spring, finishing second at 1500 meters in 5:01.37, coming in third at 600 meters in 2:30.42, and being a member of the 4 x 400 meter relay team that finished second in 4:15.91. She was named All-New England Alliance in all three of those events as well.

Indoors, Nygaard earned All-Conference and All-New England Alliance honors indoors at 800 meters, finishing second in the LEC and third in the Alliance in 2:34.57. She was named to both the Chancellor's List and the Dean's List for academic excellence. Nygaard has a 4.00 grade point average, and is majoring in nursing.

"This is just another example of the great kids that we have here at UMass Dartmouth, not only academically but athletically," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Devlyn Lovell. "This is a very special award for our department, as well as for Leanne. It sets a standard for the rest of the people out here, and, hopefully, they can follow our lead."
