Bellemore earns ECAC Division III Field Athlete of the Week

GORHAM, Maine -- Senior Melissa Bellemore (Manchester, N.H./West) of the  University of Southern Maine women's indoor track and field team have been recognized by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) for her outstanding performance during the week of January 22-28.
    
Bellemore was named the ECAC Division Three Field Athlete of the Week. 

Competing at the USM Coed Invitational this past Saturday (January 27), Bellemore won three events and placed fourth in another to help the Huskies win the meet.
    
Bellemore took the top spot in the pole vault with an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 11 feet, 3 1/2 inches (3.44 meters), the long jump with a leap of 16-8 and the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.07 seconds.  She also placed fourth in the triple jump with a jump of 32-6 1/4.
    
Southern Maine amassed 217.50 points to outdistance second place Bates College which finished with 148 points.  Rounding out the top three was the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth with 87 points.
    
The Huskies will travel to Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, this Friday (February 2,  6:00 p.m.) for the annual State Championships meet.  The Huskies are the defending champions.
