2007 Little East Conference Women's Tennis Championships Day 1 Results

PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Bridgewater State is currently in first place at the 2007 Little East Conference Women’s Tennis Championships, hosted by Rhode Island College, with 12.0 points after one day of competition. Rhode Island College is two points off the pace, while UMass Dartmouth, Plymouth State and Western Connecticut have totaled 6.0 points.

The No. 2 and No. 3 doubles flight champions were determined and opening round action of the six singles flights were completed.

The third-seeded tandem of freshman Rachel Elman (Dighton, Mass.) and sophomore Paula Ucher (Webster, Mass.) from Bridgewater State captured the Little East Championship at No. 2 doubles, defeating fourth-seeded UMass Dartmouth freshman Alexi Fiorta (Reading, Mass.) and freshman Amber Ubertini (Dalton, Mass.), 8-2.

The top-seeded pair of sophomore Jaclyn Eastman (Mansfield, Mass.) and freshman Brittany LaBarre (Greenville, R.I.) from Rhode Island College captured Little East Championship at No. 3 doubles, defeating second-seeded Bridgewater State seniors Alison Tripp (South Dennis, Mass.) and Paula Araujo (Fall River, Mass.), 8-4.

The top-seeded tandem of Rhode Island College junior Meg Funk (Oakdale, Conn.) and senior Sasha Doonan Rodriguez (Pawtucket, R.I.) will face the second-seeded pair of UMass Boston senior Aurora Lormeus (Milton, Mass.) and sophomore Emily Johnson (Saugus, Mass.) in the championship match of the No. 1 doubles flight tomorrow morning.

The semifinals and finals, as well as consolation action, of the six singles flights will begin tomorrow at 8:45 a.m.
