Owls finished 2nd; set 21 school records

DURHAM, N.H 2/18/07 - It was a record breaking
weekend for Keene State College at the 2007 New England
Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA)
Championship held at the Henry C. Swasey Pool on the campus of the
University of New Hampshire.
After only winning two events at the New England Championship meet
last year, the Owls had a powerful showing by winning 16 events,
breaking 21 college records and 1 meet record. Freshman Cody
Larrimore was undefeated in his individual events (50 free, 100
free, 100 IM) and set school records in all three of them. He went
on to time trial a 100 fly and set the school record in that swim.
Eight women and five men earned all New England Honors in multiple
events. Two senior members of the men's team returned to Keene with
awards. Kyle Uricchio was named swimmer of the meet and Adam Van
Brandenburg was recognized as the high point scorer at the
meet.
"Both teams stepped up to the challenge," said first-year coach
Jack Fabian. "We had outstanding performances, individually and in
relays. It was amazing; we broke some records that have been on the
books for over 30 years."
Both Keene State men's and women teams placed second behind Bentley
College at the three day meet. Bentley College captured its sixth
straight women's championship claimed its third consecutive men's
title.
Individually, freshman Krissy Trutor (Holden, Mass.) posted a
provisional NCAA Division III championship qualifying mark with her
first place performance in the 100 backstroke (59.82) and Uricchio
(Enfield, Conn.) set a meet record with his time of 9:56.77 in the
1,000 freestyle. Both were KSC records. Uriccho also won the 400
I.M. (4:19.26) and 1,650 free (16:39.90)in school record times.
If Trutors' time holds up, she will be the first KSC athlete to
compete at the NCAA championships since the school's 400 freestyle
relay team earned All-American honors in 1976. For good measure
Trutor also set a school record in the 50 back (28.02) as par of
the team's 200 medley relay.
Senior Katlin Pryor (Jaffrey, N.H.) completed her Keene State
career by winning the 500 free (5:12.72) placing second in the
1,000 free (10:52.15) in record setting times. Kelly Yankowski
(Turners Falls, Mass.) won the 100 I.M. (1:02.73)and the 100 free
(54.86) and placed third in the 50 free (25.36)
In other women's races, Alea Paddock (Newbury, N.H.) placed second
in the 50 breast (32.52) and fourth in the 100 breast with a school
record time of 1:09.93. Kelly Widman (Middlebury, Conn.) was second
in the 50 free (25.33) and fifth in the 200 free (2:04.58), Devon
Trabilsy (Hillsborough, N.J.) was second in the 400 I.M.
(4:49.76),Katie Allenson (Clifton park, N.Y.) finished sixth in the
200 free (2:06.87).
Pryor, Trutor, Widman, and Trabilsy teamed up to take first in the
200 free relay (1:40.86). Pryor, Trutor, Paddock, and Widman also
joined forces to top the field the 200 medley relay (1:51.80). Both
relays set school records.
Two other relays took second. The 400 medley relay of Yankowski,
Trutor, Trabilsy had a time of 4:12.46 and the 800 free relay of
Pryor, Allenson, Widman, and Paddock posted a time of 8:09.29.
Several freshmen on the men's team shined in their first trip to
the New Englands. Cody Larrimore (Trappe, Md.) and Mike Fedele
(Sandwich, Mass.) won races in school record time. Larrimore swam
to a win in the 50 free (21.39) 1,650 free and Fedele posted a win
in the 200 I.M. (1:57.93). Fedele was also second inn the 400 I.M.
(4:19.49). First-year swimmer Domingo Rose (Nashua, N.H.) had a
pair of fourth place finishes in the 50 breast (28.07) and 50 free
(22.27). His time in the 50 breast was a school record. Sophomore
Marc Perrault (West Greenwich, R.I.), a newcomer to the program,
placed sixth in the 50 fly (25.46).
Senior Adam Van Brandenburg (Tenafly, N.J) capped his Owl career by
winning the 500 free (5:01.01) and taking second in the 1,000 free
(10:24.86).
On Sunday, the KSC men's victorious 400 free relay team set a new
record. The previous mark of 3:17.90 was established back in
1976.
The 200 free relay of Rose, Van Brandenburg, Fedele, and Larrimore
finished second with a school record time of 1:28.99. The 400
medley relay of Rose, Fedele, Larrimore, and Van Brandenburg places
third (3:44.60). The same group teamed up to place sixth in the 200
medley relay (1:42.41).
