DeStefano earns ECAC weekly honor for 2nd time this season
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The top diver on the
Plymouth State University women’s swimming and diving team
was recognized Wednesday with a top regional honor by the Eastern
College Athletic Conference (ECAC).
Senior Danielle DeStefano (Centerville, Mass.) was
selected the ECAC Women’s Division III Co-Diver of the Week.
It is the second time this season and the third time in her career
that she has received the weekly honor from the ECAC. A former
gymnast now in her third year as a diver, DeStefano provided the
highlights for the Panthers last Saturday with a pair of diving
victories in PSU's dual meet against Simmons.
Competing in the final dual meet of her career, DeStefano set the
school record on the one-meter board with a score of 246.05,
eclipsing the mark of 244.85 set in 2004 by former New England
champion Krit Kearins. DeStefano also won the three meter event
with a score of 237.75, remaining undefeated in dual meets this
season with her eighth diving sweep. She also won the Little East
Conference championships on both boards in December.
DeStefano will be back on the board for the New England
Championships on Feb. 16-18 at the University of New Hampshire in
Durham, N.H. She finished third on the one-meter board and
runner-up in the three-meter event at last year’s New
Englands.
