Corsairs sweep Elms, Coache sets two pool records
CHICOPEE, Mass.--The University of
Massachusetts Dartmouth swimmers rode a record-setting performance
by senior Meaghan Coache (New Bedford, Mass./New Bedford
HS) and swept their dual meet against Elms at Partyka
Natatorium Tuesday evening.
The Corsairs won the men's competition, 118-87, and took the
women's meet, 149-110.
For the women, Coache on four events and set two Partyka Natatorium
pool records. She broke pool records in winning the 50 meter
butterfly in 30.72 seconds and the 100 meter butterfly in 1:08.52
(all distances were in meters rather than yards because Elms has a
25 meter pool). Coache also won the 50 meter freestyle in 29.76
seconds, and was a member of the victorious 200 meter freestyle
relay team, which also included junior Katelyn Chase (Acushnet,
MA/New Bedford HS), junior Renee Krusznya (Cheshire, MA/Westfield
State/Cheshire HS) and junior Shannon Quinn (Waltham, MA/Waltham
HS).
Kruszyna won the 200 meter freestyle in 2:23.92 and the 100 meter
freestyle in 1:08.02, Quinn was a member of the first-place 200
meter medley relay team, which won in 2:27.18 and also included
freshman Kaitlyn Kewriga (Stoughton, MA/Stoughton HS), freshman
Kathleen Foley (Haverhill, MA/Haverhill HS) and sophomore Lisa
Sands (Taunton, MA/UMass).
The UMass Dartmouth men improved to 2-4 and the women to 1-6 with
the victories, while Elms' men dropped to 0-4 and the women to 3-6.
The Corsairs will return to action when they host Worcester
Polytechnic Institute Thursday evening.
