Eastern Connecticut claims top-seed in Little East Conference Championship Tournament

KEENE, N.H. – The Eastern Connecticut
State University women’s lacrosse clinched the No. 1 seed in
the upcoming Little East Conference playoffs by winning a battle of
the lone conference unbeatens, putting together a string of three
straight goals in the final minutes in a 13-12 victory over Keene
State College Saturday afternoon.
In a match which pitted the remaining conference unbeatens, Eastern
(7-6, 5-0 little east) also clinched at least a share of their
second straight regular-season title and can clinch their second
straight unbeaten season next Saturday when they host Rhode Island
College. Keene (9-5, 3-1 little east) was foiled in a bid for a
program-record seventh straight victory.
The victory was the 14th straight regular-season conference one for
the Warriors, who captured the final three of 2006, all six in
2007, and their first five this season. It was the third one-goal
decision in a series which Eastern has dominated with a 13-1
advantage (five straight).
Eastern got goals from sophomore Brooke Wayte (Bellport, NY),
senior captain Megan Gloster (Agawam, MA) and senior Lily Anderson
(Portland, ME) in a span of eight minutes to break the sixth tie of
the match (10-10) and take a three-goal lead with six minutes left.
Anderson finished with a season-high five goals. Sophomore Taylor
MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, MA), junior Natalie Sims (Carle Place, NY),
and Gloster scored twice each.
Junior goalie Joslin Wells (Marstons Mills, MA) was credited with
15 saves in winning her seventh game in 13 starts.
The match was the team's third straight to be decided by a single
goal. Last Tuesday, the Warriors lost 13-12, then were edged at
Wellesley College Thursday, 15-14.
Eastern hosts Bridgewater State College Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
