Allen Named Academic All-District Teams

DELAWARE, Ohio - Junior defender
Colleen Allen (Gloucester, Mass./Gloucester HS) of
the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s women’s
lacrosse team has been named to the second team ESPN the
Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.
Allen was named to the at-large team in a vote of sports
information directors in District One who are members of the
College Sports Information Directors of America. Student-athletes
honored must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.2
and be sophomores, juniors or seniors at their respective
universities.
Allen played all 15 games on defense for the Corsairs during the
2008 season, scoring once goal while adding 30 ground balls and 13
caused turnovers. A member of the inaugural Little East Conference
All-Academic Team, she has been named to both the
Chancellor’s List (3.8 GPA or better) and the Dean’s
List (3.2 GPA or higher) while at UMass Dartmouth. The Corsairs
went 9-6 this season, hosted a conference first round playoff game
for the second year in a row, and advanced to the conference
semi-finals.
“Colleen is a very distinguished student-athlete,” said
UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Jerry Jennings.
“She’s been a starter in each of the last two seasons,
and she’s managed to handle the difficult responsibilities,
both in her sport, and in a very demanding major. She was recently
elected as one of our captains for next year. Colleen is an
outstanding young woman, and a great leader.”
