Eastern Connecticut draws Colby College in NCAA Tournament

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.- Eastern Connecticut State University earned its second straight berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament and will travel to Colby College for first round action on Wednesday, May 7. The NCAA Division III Selection Committee announced the 25-team field late last night on NCAASports.com.

The Warriors are making the program's third NCAA Tournament appearance in the past four seasons. Eastern Connecticut hoisted the Little East Conference Championship trophy three times in the program's history, winning titles in 2005, 2007, and 2008. The Little East Conference owns one of the 15 automatic berths into the NCAA Division III Tournament.

The Warriors (11-6) won the Little East Conference Championship Tournament this past weekend, defeating the University of Southern Maine to earn the conference's automatic qualifier into the national tournament. Under the direction of Head Coach Christine Hutchison, Eastern Connecticut swept the conference circuit the past two seasons, including boasting a 6-0 mark on the present campaign. Senior midfielder Megan Gloster (Agawam, Mass.) paces a well-balanced attack as five student-athletes have scored at least 35 points this spring. Gloster leads the Warriors in points (60), assists (27), and game-winning goals (4), while classmate attacker Lilly Anderson (Portland, Maine) has netted a team-high 52 markers.

The Mules (12-5) are making the program's second foray into the NCAA Tournament, winning the NESCAC Conference Tournament this past weekend. Colby College had a tough road to hoe in its conference tournament, defeating the top four seeds over the past nine days. The fifth-seeded Mules upset top-seeded Middlebury College in the semifinals before knocking out third-seeded Trinity College (Conn.) in the championship match.

The winner of the Eastern Connecticut State University and Colby College contest will travel to Clinton, N.Y. to face Hamilton College on May 10. The Continentals (17-1) captured their second consecutive Liberty League Championship this past weekend, earning the conference's automatic berth.
