Warriors record 15th straight conference win; capture title outright

MANSFIELD, Conn. -- The Eastern Connecticut
State University women’s lacrosse posted its second straight
unbeaten conference regular season with a 17-5 victory over
Rhode Island College Saturday afternoon.
Eastern (9-6, 6-0 little east) had already been assured of at least
a share of the regular-season conference title and the No. 1 seed
entering the match against the Anchorwomen (3-11, 1-5
little east). The win is the Warriors 15th straight over
a three-year period in regular-season conference
play. ECSU is the defending Little East Conference
Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament champion.
Eastern and second-seeded University of Southern Maine receive byes
into Thursday’s semifinals, the Warriors hosting their
semifinal game at 4:30 p.m. In the semifinal-round match, Eastern
will play the winner of a Tuesday's first-round match between No. 5
seed Western Connecticut and No. 4 seed UMass Dartmouth. Western
finished in a three-way tie for fifth place and earned the No. 5
seed over Rhode Island College and Plymouth State on tie-breakers.
UMass Dartmouth fell to the No. 4 seed after dropping a makeup
match Sunday by a score of 19-1 at No. 3 seed Keene State
College.
The conference title game is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at the
site of the highest remaining seed, with the winner qualifying
automatically for the NCAA Division III tournament.
