GORHAM, Maine -- Senior Virginia Flood (Acton, Maine/Wells) of the University of Southern Maine women's lacrosse team has been selected to the 2007 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District One At-Large second team in the College Division as voted upon by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Flood is the second of three USM student-athletes to be recognized by CoSIDA during the 2006-07 academic year. She joins women's basketball standout Ashley Marble and women's track athlete Christa Hutchinson as Academic All-District honorees. Flood is majoring in biochemistry.

The Huskies leading scorer the past two seasons, Flood tallied 37 goals and 11 assists for 48 points during the 2007 season. She also had 28 ground balls and 27 draw controls in 16 games. A midfielder, Flood was recognized by the Little East Conference with a spot on the all-conference first team.

During her two seasons at USM, Flood played in 28 games, scoring 75 goals and passing out 16 assists for 91 career points. She ranks second all-time at USM in goals scored and total points.

Southern Maine finished the 2007 season with a 7-9 overall record, a 2-4 mark in Little East Conference play and advanced to the conference tournament semifinals for the first time by defeating the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on the road in the first round.

To be eligible for ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America® nomination by their respective institution, a student-athlete must carry a 3.2 minimum cumulative grade point average, be of sophomore standing (no freshman or first-year transfers), and be a starter or important reserve. Eligible sports for the women's At-Large team are bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, and water
polo.
