Kent named to Academic All-District One Team

WATERVILLE, Maine – Junior guard
Stacey Kent (Northwood, N.H./Coe-Brown Academy) of
the nationally-ranked University of Southern Maine Huskies
women’s basketball team has been selected to the 2008 ESPN
the Magazine Academic All-District One third team as voted upon by
members of the College Sports Information Directors of America
(CoSIDA).
The 5-9 inch guard carries a 3.51 grade point average and is
studying for a degree in psychology. It is the first time in her
career that Kent has earned the honor.
The College Sports Information Directors of America selects
Academic All-America ® teams in 12 programs: football,
women’s volleyball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer,
men’s basketball, women’s basketball, baseball,
softball, men’s track & field/cross country,
women’s track & field/cross country, men’s at large
and women’s at large. A first team, second team and third
team are selected in both the University (Division I and I-AA) and
College (Division II, III and NAIA) Divisions.
Kent, a 2007 Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association
(MWBCA) Second Team All-State selection, leads Southern Maine in
scoring averaging 15.0 points per game, while shooting an
outstanding 49.7 percent (99-for-199) from the field. A significant
three-point threat, Kent leads the Huskies in three-point field
goals made (34) and three-point field goals percentage (44.2
percent, 34-for-77). Kent is also tied for second on the team in
rebounds (5.6 per game) and assists (2.3 per game) and is fourth in
steals (1.5 per game).
Kent has been named Little East Conference (LEC) Player of the Week
on three occasions (Jan. 21, Jan. 14, Dec. 10) and has earned the
same distinction from the MWBCA three times (Jan. 17, Dec. 10 and
Nov. 26). Kent leads the LEC in scoring and three-point field goal
percentage. She is also in the top ten in three-point field goals
made (second), field goal percentage (fourth), free throw
percentage (79.1 percent, fourth) and assists (10th).
Southern Maine is 19-1 overall and 9-0 in the Little East
Conference. The Huskies host Eastern Connecticut State University
at 1 p.m. on Saturday (February 9) in a LEC contest.
