Southern Maine Earns 1st Win Since 2006

GORHAM, Maine – Senior outside hitter
Shannon Shuttle (New Ipswich, N.H.) a match-high
11 kills, five digs and four service aces to lead the University of
Southern Maine Huskies to a 3-0 win over the Pine Manor College
Gators Wednesday evening in a non-conference women’s
volleyball match at Hill Gymnasium in Gorham, Maine. The Huskies
defeated the Gators 25-14, 25-10, 25-13.
Earning their first win of the season, the Huskies also earned
their first win since the 2006 season, and improve their record to
1-5. Dropping its third straight match, Pine Manor falls to 1-5
with the loss.
Sophomore setter Laurie Boulay (Biddeford, Maine)
helped orchestrate the USM offense passing off a match high 15
assists. Boulay added four service aces and a kill. Senior middle
blocker Cassi Sticht (Meredith, N.H.) had four
kills, four digs, four service aces and three blocks in a solid all
around effort for the Huskies.
Pine Manor sophomore outside hitter Jen Gross (Coral Springs, Fla.)
led the Gators offensively with six kills. Senior libero Veronica
Vozzolo (Bellemore, N.Y.) added two kills a team-high five
digs.
Southern Maine travels to Plymouth State University on Saturday
(12p.m.) for a Little East Conference match with Western
Connecticut State and Plymouth State. Pine Manor travels to Mount
Ida on Saturday (10 a.m.).
