Jasud, Gomes Compete at NCAA Cross Country Championship

HANOVER, Ind. -- Junior Tyler Jasud
(Rumford, Maine) and freshman Alex Gomes (Peabody,
Mass.) of the University of Southern Maine men's cross
country team each posted a Top 100 finish Saturday at the NCAA
Division III National Championship held at Hanover College in
Hanover, Indiana.
Jasud finished 43rd among the 278 finishers while Gomes came home
in 97th place overall. Jasud covered the eight-kilometer course in
a time of 25 minutes, 5.35 seconds. His time was less than
six seconds behind the final All-American spot (35th), and the 43rd
place finish matched the program's best finish turned in last year
by Curtis Wheeler. Gomes posted a time of 25:36.90 and was
the seventh finisher among the first-year runners competing.
Junior Peter Kosgei of Hamilton College was the individual winner
posting a time of 24:22.03. Cortland (N.Y.) State took the team
title with 80 points followed by North Central College with 115 and
Williams College with 129 points.
