Owls' 2nd At ECAC Div. III Men's Cross Country Championship

WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS.  - Junior Sean Gavaghan (Monroe, Conn.) raced to a sixth place finish to lead the Keene State College men's cross country team to second place at the 2007 ECAC championship held at the Mt. Greylock Regional High School in Williamtown, Mass., on Saturday.

Gavaghan, fighting for the final spot on the Owls's varsity, clocked a time of 25:44 on the 8K course.

The next three Owl runners finished one after another. Freshman Jeff Trethewey (Merrimack, N.H.) was 12th (26:55), sophomore Jeff Goupil (Barrington, N.H.) was 13th (26:57), and junior Peter Najem (Derry, N.H.) finished 14th (27:00). Freshman Corey Loonan (Sandwich, Mass.) rounded out the KSC scorers with his 53rd (27:55) finish.

Keene State tallied 96 for its runner-up position in the 37-team field. Williams (45 points) placed three runners in the top-10 to win the championship. Wayne Hooper of St. Vincent (Pa.) College won the race with a time of 26:14.
