Track Athlete of the Week

Curtis Wheeler (Derby, Vt.), Senior, University of Southern Maine

Senior Curtis Wheeler smashed the school record for 10,000 meters Friday night while competing in the Sam Howell Invitational being held at Princeton University. Wheeler, who finished fifth in the event, turned in a time of 30 minutes,18.26 seconds to take more than a minute off his previous school record time of 31:30.48 set in March 2007 at Tufts University. Wheeler's time also provisionally qualified him for the 2008 NCAA Division III National Championships to be held the end of May at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He easily surpassed the provisional qualifying standard of 31:05.00, and was just 4.26 seconds shy of the automatic qualifying standard of 30:14.00. 

Field Athlete of the Week

Nate Fogell (Alton Bay, N.H.), Freshman, University of Southern Maine


Fogell earned a first place finish to help the University of Southern Maine men's outdoor track and field team to a third place finish at the 2008 Jim Sheehan Memorial Meet this past weekend. The freshman from Alton Bay, N.H. won the high jump event, clearing 1.86 meters.

Rookie Field Athlete of the Week

Bryan Kolacz (Brentwood, N.H.), Freshman, Keene State College


Kolacz notched a pair of top-five finishes at the 2008 Jim Sheehan Memorial Meet hosted by Fitchburg State College this past weekend. The Brentwood, N.H. product placed second in the discus throw (141'-06") and fourth in the shot put (42'-09.75). Keene State College finished fourth in the team standings with 124.50 points.
