Track Athlete of the Week

Curtis Wheeler (Derby, Vt.), Senior, University of Southern Maine

Wheeler crossed the finish line first in the 5000 with a time of 15 minutes, 23.87 seconds. Wheeler led a 1-2-3 finish by Southern Maine in the event, followed in second place by his brother Nick and in third by sophomore Tyler Jasud. The Derby, Vt. Product was one of two first place finishers for the Huskies as Southern Maine placed fourth in the 2008 Tufts University Snowflake Classic.   

Field Athlete of the Week

Adam Haggerty (Hermon, Maine), Senior, University of Southern Maine

Haggerty was one of two Southern Maine first-place finishers at the 2008 Tufts University Snowflake Classic. The native of Heron, Maine won the pole vault clearing 13-11.25 (4.25 meters). Haggerty helped USM to a fourth place finish at the meet with 74 points. Dartmouth College won the meet with 223 points.

Rookie Track Athlete of the Week

Eric Nygaard (Medway, Mass.), Freshman, UMass Dartmouth

Nygaard placed fifth at 1500 meters with a time of 4:19.40 in UMass Dartmouth's season-opening at Westfield State College. 

Rookie Field Athlete of the Week

Matt Muolo (Stoneham, Mass.), Freshman, UMass Boston

The freshman won the shot put with a heave of 13.01 meters and also captured the discus with a throw of 38.38 meters at the Rhode Island College Invitational.
