Men’s Track and Field

Track Athlete of the Week:

Jon Garcia (Stoneham, Mass.), Senior, UMass Dartmouth
Garcia posted an automatic qualifying mark for the NCAA Division III Championships in his first meet of the season. In the 55-meter hurdles event, the Stoneham, Mass. product defeated 15 other competitors with a winning time of 7.52 seconds. The championship field featured primarily Division I runners.

Field Athlete of the Week:

Bryan Kolacz (Brentwood, N.H.), Freshman, Keene State College

Kolacz placed second in the weight throw at the Smith College Tartan Invitational on Feb. 9 with a toss of 47’-10.50”. Keene State College placed ninth as a team with 36 points.

Women’s Track and Field

Co-Track Athlete of the Week:

Jennifer Adams (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), Senior, Keene State College

Adams posted an NCAA Division III Championship automatic qualifying and school-record time (16:46.32) with her second place finish in the 5,000-meter race at the Boston University Valentine Invitational on Feb. 8. The Saratoga Springs, N.Y. product set a personal best time in the race by 22 seconds, while eclipsing the previous Owl standard (16:49.60) set by Mary Proulx in 2002.

Hattie Landry (Acton, Maine), Senior, University of Southern Maine

Landry, who scored 38 points for Southern Maine, had a spectacular meet winning the 200-meter dash, 55-meter hurdles, and 55-meter dash—earning three of the Huskies seven first-place finishes. In the 55-meter dash, she established a new school record with a time of 7.51 seconds in the finals, breaking the previous mark of 7.55 set by Josie Marshall in 2006. Landry claimed the top spot in the 55-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 8.66 and crossed the finish line in first place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.98.

Field Athlete of the Week:

Emily Poliquin (Lisbon Falls, Maine), Junior, University of Southern Maine

Poliquin helped Southern Maine win the Maine State Indoor Track and Field Championships this past weekend for the first time since 2006. The Lisbon Falls, Maine native won the long jump competition with a leap of 5.09 meters and placed second in the triple jump. She earned 28 individual points in the meet.
