Track Athlete of
the Week
Curtis Wheeler (Derby, Vt.), Senior, Southern Maine
Curtis Wheeler provisionally qualified for the 2008 NCAA Division
III National Championships with a standout performance in the
5,000-meter run to highlight a strong performance by the University
of Southern Maine at the Terrier Invitational this past weekend.
Wheeler clocked a time of 14 minutes, 45.44 seconds to place eighth
overall and first among Division III runners.
Field Athlete of
the Week
John Napolitano (Providence, R.I.), Senior, Keene State College
Napolitano won the weight throw competition at the Wesleyan
Invitational this past weekend with a throw of 13.01 meters. The
Providence, R.I. product defeated nine other Little East Conference
participants in the field.
Women's Track
and Field
Track Athlete of
the Week
Steina Fleming (Tortola, BVI), Sophomore, Rhode Island
College
Fleming established a new Rhode Island College record in the
55-meters at the Wesleyan Invitational this past weekend, crossing
the finish line in a time of 7.32. She shattered the previous
standard of 7.40, set by Dana Skorupa '05. Fleming provisionally
qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships in
March.
Field Athlete of
the Week
Crystal Blamy (Walpole, N.H.), Senior, Keene State
College
Blamy posted an automatic NCAA Division III Championship qualifying
and school record with her winning mark of 5.75 feet in the high
jump at the Boston University Terrier Invitational this past
weekend. She broke her own Keene State College record of 5.68 feet
set last weekend. Blamy defeated a field consisting of Div. I, II,
and III competitors.
