Keene State's Theriault Notches 100th Career Win

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MASS. - Junior attack Tony
Santa Fe (Derry, N.H.) scored four times, including the tying and
go ahead goals in the fourth quarter to lead #19 Keene State to a
come-from-behind 10-8 Little East Conference men's lacrosse victory
over UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday. It was the 100th career win for
Owl Coach Mark Theriault.
Keene State, (3-0, 1-0 LEC), which remains undefeated, has won
ninth straight LEC regular season games. The Owls last lost (8-7)
came against rival Eastern Conn. April 22, 2006. UMass-Dartmouth
(5-1, 0-1) drops its first game of the season.
The scored was knotted at 1-1 after the first quarter. The
upset-minded Corsairs outscored the Owls 5-2 in the second quarter
to go up 6-3 at halftime. The Owls had 29 shots, but just three
goals in the first half. "We had our opportunities, but we just
couldn't capitalize, "said KSC Coach Mark Theriault.
The Owls began to chip away at UMD's lead in the third quarter,
outscoring the Corsairs 4-2 to make it an 8-7 game. The fourth
quarter belonged to Keene State, which scored three goals while
keeping the Corsairs off the board.
Santa Fe tied the game at the 9:25 mark and netted the game-winner
three minutes later. "Tony did a nice job of beating his man from
behind the net and getting to the opposite side for the goal," said
Theriault. "That's why he was selected as a preseason
All-America."
Junior midfielder Alex Loscialpo (Westport, Conn.) added an
insurance goal late in the quarter.
Santa Fe's four goals give him a team-leading 11 on the season. He
also had two assists. Senior midfielder Ryan Hazelton (Chester,
N.H.) finished with two goals and two assists while Casey Brodersen
(Derry, N.H.), Bryan Sweeney (East Lyme, Conn.), and Chris Jenkins
(Derry, N.H.) also found the back of the net for the Owls. It was
the first college goal for Jenkins, a defensive midfielder.
Senior goalie Matt Johnson (Derry, N.H.) finished the game with
nine saves.
The Owls play their first home game of the season on Tuesday when
they host Wheaton College (4 p.m.).
