1999-2000 Little East Conference Basketball Preseason Polls
DANBURY, Conn. - The 1999-2000 Little East Conference has announced its'
preseason coaches poll for the upcoming season.
The men's side is going to be a three team battle with Eastern Connecticut
State University predicted to finish on top. Eastern finished in a tie for
fourth place last season, and received three first place votes and 38 points in
this years poll. The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth fills the No. 2 spot
in the poll with three first place votes and 36 points, followed by Keene State
College with one first place vote and 35 points.
Western Connecticut State University, the 1998-99 LEC Tournament Champion
has been picked to finish fourth on the men's side with the University of
Southern Maine (22 points), Plymouth State College (21 points), the University
of Massachusetts Boston (13 points) and Rhode Island College (7 points) rounding
out the poll in the fifth through eighth place spots.
In the women's race, the University of Southern Maine has been picked to
repeat once again. The Huskies picked up seven first place votes and 49 points
to get themselves the No. 1 preseason ranking. Western Connecticut tallied one
first place vote and gathered 41 points placing them in the No. 2 spot.
Eastern Connecticut State University, Keene State College and Plymouth
State College are expected to do battle for the third, fourth and fifth spots as
Eastern gathered 36 points followed by Keene with 30 points and Plymouth with
27.
Rounding out the preseason poll were Rhode Island College (20 points), the
University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (13 points) and the University of
Massachusetts Boston (8 points)
